Galen, what wonderful colors you captured here and the road is calling me to go. Fortunately, I’m going to Philadelphia this weekend, but I’ll only be seeing roads from the plane.

Philadelphia is a place I’ve never been able to visit. I’ve been close… but never made it to the city. I hope you enjoyed your time there. We don’t fly anymore unless it’s absolutely positively unquestionably necessary. Too much hassle and very uncomfortable these days. We like to take the extra time and make it a road trip. And that’s where we come across scenes like this. Thanks as always for your comment…

I’d rather drive, but if I fly, I can be there almost four days, rather than just two and since I have to work about 9 hours the day after I get back, a 13-hour drive would be a bit much. 🙂 I’m flying Southwest, which is usually as good as it gets, if I can get through the TSA line without too much delay.

You make a very good point… and it is true you have to trade “destination days” for “travel days”. We had a terrible… horrible… no good… very bad day a number of years ago compliments of the TSA here in Tucson who went out of there way to totally and completely ruin our trip. That’s when we decided to never fly again… unless it’s undeniably… unequivocally… unquestionably necessary. On those few occasions we have taken Southwest from Tucson to Midway in Chicago… then rented a car and driven to South Bend, Indiana. I especially like Midway because there is a White Castle right on the outside southeast corner of the airport property… and that is our first stop. It is definitely a trade off… if we drive… the closest White Castle to Tucson is in Springfield Missouri… which is a good day and a half’s drive if we stop over in Amarillo. Just one of the decisions a person has to make I guess.
I do hope you had a good trip…

Leaving for Philly (from Midway) very, very early Friday morning and for France a week from this coming Friday. 🙂 I know what you mean about a trade-off, but when going to France at least, driving isn’t an option! 🙂

Thank you… I’m glad you like it. The Natchez Trace Parkway is almost 450 miles of absolutely gorgeous scenery. Of course time of year and how far north or south you are on the parkway makes a difference… this photograph was taken near the northern end just south of Nashville, Tennessee in late October. Thank you Jude. The Natchez Trace (I call it the “Nacho Cheese”… easier to remember)… is one of the best kept secrets in this country. Even though it is almost 450 miles long and goes through 4 states very few people know about it. It is beautifully maintained by the National Park Service and is an absolute delight to behold. Where I live in the Desert Southwest of the U.S. we don’t have nearly the autumn colors they have in other parts of the country. That’s one of the reasons we enjoyed so much this drive on the parkway through Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana in the month of October. The further south we drove the less leaf color… but there was more than enough to thrill our senses along the way. That’s why I especially enjoy the autumn color in photographs… because the trees that are adorned with the tints and hues of the season just aren’t to be found around here.

It’s funny you should say that. After I got a “taste” of the parkway by driving a hundred miles or so… I immediately put driving the full 450 miles on my “bucket list”. I talked about it a lot… and finally last year I was able to do it. It was in November… so the colors weren’t nearly as vibrant… but it was quite an experience just the same. I would say it is definitely worth a spot in anyone’s bucket list!

Is this a recent photo? I’m planning to go to New England region on October. Is it a good time to see the woods like this?

This photo was taken in late October. But this was down in Southern Tennessee… and if you are talking about upper New England the colors would probably be most vivid in late September or very early October. It probably would be best to check with tourist centers or chambers of commerce in the area you plan to visit to find out when the best time is for colors in that region. Have a good trip and enjoy the scenery.
