Love this “detailed” subject – I read that it is cactus – but when I first looked I thought so many things – like pineapple – person’s spiked hair – macro of a seedling – so many things – !
Then i like the blue in the. Negative space….

So glad you liked it Yvette. This photo was shot in the very late afternoon with the low sun behind the cactus… which is why the spines around the edge are backlit. In the resulting photograph the blue sky was washed out by the sunlight with only a light blue edge around the outside of the negative space. It was interesting how the light played out in the resulting photograph…

Well I also thought it could have been a mountain when I saw the small image in reader – looks like you were out at the right time !

I was out shooting with my granddaughter until after dark. Fortunately we each had flash lights to find our way out. I’ve known people who walked out in the desert until after dark… or went rock climbing… and didn’t have any light to get them out. Finding their way out after dark is an experience they will never forget…

Mostly the former… and not too much of the latter. In fact… I’ve been trying to get down from a perch in the rocks at night even with a flashlight… and I didn’t really feel that jolly! Besides… you don’t know how many critters are watching you making a fool of yourself and laughing their heads off! What I do like to do is go out on the trails at Saguaro National Park before daylight… that can be fun… cuz you know daylight is going to come. At least so far it always has!

The pleasure is all mine Yvette… it’s nice to be able to converse with someone and get to feel that you know a chad or two about them in addition to their screen name. Be kind to yourself…

Cactus spines can be wicked. This past Sunday I banged my bald head on a low tree limb and tore off a patch of skin about the size of a quarter. Yesterday as it was starting to heal nicely I was bending over doing some things and accidentally swiped my head against one of my tall cactus plants. That little exchange not only tore off the whole healing scab from my head… but gave me a nice cut in the process. Today my head is bandaged and I am wearing a hat (probably should be a helmet!). I repeat… cactus spines can be wicked. They demand respect.

I suppose they might as well be metal… they are just about as hard… and definitely as sharp as a fine metal needle.

Thanks mucho for stopping by and commenting…
