    Do you also have plant species there that need fire for regeneration?

      Pine trees are probably the most well known. It takes fire to open the cones to expel the seeds. I’m sure there are others… but I’m not sure what they all are. The fires can be very beneficial to regenerate the forest… but the problem is more and more people are building homes in the forest areas which carry a lot of weight in the determination of fire suppression policies. The fire where I took most of my “aftermath” shots burned almost 50,000 acres and in the process destroyed 250 homes. The fire was started by lightening. The forest service first decided to let it burn itself out because it didn’t threaten any structures at that point… but it quickly got out of hand due to dry and windy conditions.
